NNMREC leadership visited Washington DC in November, maintaining open lines of communication between marine energy developers and national policy makers. Pictured here (from left) are NNMREC Directors, Drs. Jeremy Kasper (UAF), Brian Polagye (UW), Andy Stewart (UW), and Belinda Batten (OSU) at the US Senate Visitor's Center.
NNMREC Directors, Drs. Belinda Batten, Brian Polagye, and Jeremy Kasper (pictured left to right, respectively) attended the International Conference on Ocean Energy in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. This gave NNMREC the opportunity to connect with key marine energy advocates, partners, and collaborators.
Dr. Mitsuhiro Kawase [NNMREC-affiliated faculty at UW] attended the 2nd Asian Wave and Tidal Energy Conference in Tokyo, Japan, July 28 – August 1. Interest in marine renewable energy is picking up across the Asia-Pacific region, with significant activities starting up in Japan, Korea, China and South-east Asia. Kawase presented his research on the energetics of tidal power, while learning the latest developments in the region and making connections to a number of researchers from these countries as well as New Zealand.
Dr. Peter Dahl [NNMREC-affiliated faculty at UW] presented two invited talks at the recent meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Indianapolis titled "Towards a standard in the measurement of underwater noise from impact pile driving in shallow water" and "Underwater noise and transmission loss from vibratory pile driving".
